Recently I have been talking with a group of local activists who are attempting to prevent their local Wal-Mart from expanding into a Superstore. One of the reasons they give is the lack of American made products that Wal-Mart offers.
The majority of products in Wal-Mart are made in another country. Not very patriotic of the Big Yellow Smiley Face. At least they could sell whatever was locally manufactured in those cities where they have a presence. That would keep those local economies from going under. One of the key complaints brought up was that local economies where the Wal-Marts were, lost a portion of the existing small mom and pop stores because they could not compete.
You know Save Money, Live Better. Cheaper stuff because its made in a factory in a steamy Malaysian jungle or by a factory in Beijing , not Lompoc or Santa Maria. That’s not living better.
If you multiply that by all the big box chains and other chain stores that import that’s a lot of merchandise.
These corporations should be required to get a mandated percentage of their products from local manufacturers.
I, as a consumer would prefer it.
How about you?
